Ben Brown has shaved his iconic curly locks off to raise money and awareness for kids living with cancer, in honour of his little cousin Grace.

The Melbourne star, famous for his hair ringlets and gameday headband, will debut a new look this season after shaving it all off on Saturday.

MELBOURNE forward Ben Brown has chopped off his famous curly locks to raise important funds for Challenge, a not-for-profit organisation that supports families and children living with cancer.

Challenge is a charity close to Brown's heart, with his 17-year-old cousin Grace having been supported by the organisation during her long-term leukaemia battle.

Earlier this month Brown announced that he would be shaving his head to raise money for Challenge, an organisation that supports families and children living with cancer. 

Dees fans rallied around the tall forward on Saturday as everyone saw the special moment live at Yarra Park.

The cause hits close to home for Brown, whose cousin Grace has fought through a long-term battle with leukaemia.

Brown made a big switch on Saturday, shaving off his trademark curly hair as a fundraiser for Challenge, a charity that supports children with cancer, raising $63,000 as of Saturday afternoon.

“My 17-year-old cousin Grace has had leukaemia twice in her short life so you can only imagine what her and her family have been through,” Brown said.

“Thankfully, she is in remission now thanks to a brand-new therapy called T-cell therapy. She was the first child in Australia with Down Syndrome to receive that therapy.

“Challenge has been with her and her family the whole way. They provide services to the families, they bring in performers when the kids are having long days in hospital and they did a lot for Grace’s family so I wanted to do something to help them.

Ben Brown’s locks might be gone, but his club’s hunger for a second Melbourne premiership in three years remains, claiming the Demons have “unfinished business” in 2023.

“Any help that all of you can give me along that journey, knowing what this girl has gone through and what my family's gone through would mean the world to me,” Brown said at the time.

“Grace had a pretty tough time of it throughout her life… when she was six, she was diagnosed with leukaemia."

Challenge member and die-hard Melbourne supporter Charlie was the first to confirm attendance to witness Ben Brown 'Chop the Mop'. 

Charlie, aged 6, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in 2020, but that hasn't stopped him from supporting his heroes in red and blue.

In 2021, Challenge sent Charlie and his family to watch an absolute blockbuster game between Melbourne & Richmond from the comfort of a corporate box.
